Battery Size

The VERTEX PLUS as well as the previous GPS PLUS and ProLihght collars enable the usage of many different but interchangeable battery sizes to ensure compatibility with a wide range of species and study scenarios. All batteries can be coupled with a Drop Off system.

The battery size determines the weight, the maximum number of positions and thus the maximum operation time of the collar at a given schedule. Most types are interchangeable so you can switch from one battery size (e.g. 1D) to another size (e.g 2D).

The battery design itself depends on the belt shape (oval, round and oval/round) and the usage of a Drop Off system.

The following tables offer a guideline on the number of positions that can be taken if the collar is set up to run for one year with only one communication option. If you want to combine two communication options, i.e. VHF communication and GSM, the actual number of positions will be lower. Worst case scenario assumes that the GPS receiver needs the maximum time of 180 s for a fix, average scenario assumes 90 s per fix and best scenario assumes 45 s per fix. All calculations are based on an average ambient temperature of 0°C. For a detailed calculation with your settings use the lifetime calculation in the GPS PLUS X Collar Manager.

Weights are approximate values only, actual weight depends on width of belt, length of belt, electronic case and additional communication options.
