Badger Cattle Contact Project

Badger Cattle Contact Project

Zoological Society of London

The Badger Cattle Contact Project was established in 2012 to research contact between badgers and cattle to understand how bovine tuberculosis is transmitted between the species. The research is funded by DEFRA.

The research:
Badgers are an important source of cattle TB, yet no-one knows how infection is transmitted, nor how best to prevent it. This project aims to determine where, when and how often badgers and cattle come into contact, both directly through touching, and indirectly through a shared environment. Once we understand how badger-cattle contact occurs, we will test out methods to prevent it.
