Lynx, Red Deer and Roe Deer in Germany and Czech Republic

Lynx, Red Deer and Roe Deer in Germany and Czech Republic

Study in the Bavarian Forest National Park

The Bavarian Forest National Park is Germany’s oldest national park and rich of different species. We focus on predator-prey interactions between lynx, red deer and roe deer. Therefore, we accomplish telemetry studies with Vectronic GPS PLUS and GPS PRO Light collars.

In a cross-border research project we determine lynx as predator and his prey animals red deer and roe deer. Thereby, our special interest is the determination of land use, behavior and interactions between lynx and deer.

The collars deliver important data such as positions, the size of the district in which the animals move and the migration movements of the collared animals. Via satellite telemetry, the coordinates are sent directly. We analyse important information about temperature and activity of the animals remotely using VHF communication or when we retrieve the collars.
